WFU to present innovative workshop at Mid-State Technical College

Event features experts and leaders in the biofuels field

On Tuesday, December 4, 2007, Wisconsin Farmers Union, Mid-State Technical College, Great Lakes Energy Consulting and the Consortium for Education in Renewable Energy Technology (CERET), will sponsor an innovative workshop entitled “Sustainable Biofuels and Local Climate Change Solutions”, to be held at Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids campus.

This collaborative seminar is designed to educate grain and livestock farmers, agriculture professionals, government officials and policy makers, educators and biofuels enthusiasts about how to make and use biofuels in today’s changing global climate.

Featured presenters include: Sue Beitlich, WFU President; Jamie Derr, Great Lakes Energy Consulting; Maria Redmond, Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence; Dr. Kenneth Walz and Paul Morchauser, Madison Area Technical College; Luke Mathews, Prairie Fire Biofuels Co-op; and Dr. Farhat Iqbal, Slilca Solar, LLC.

Previous biofuels workshops, held at Madison Area Technical College in June and Gateway Technical College in August, were resounding successes. Participants came away with a deeper understanding of and appreciation for biofuels, and nearly all attendees became members of the Wisconsin Farmers Union, joining the state’s most reasoned, progressive farm organization. WFU’s strong advocacy for agricultural concerns, environmental stewardship, renewable energy, health care and many other important issues, benefits not just farmers, but all people.

The cost to attend this workshop for non-WFU members is $45. The cost for students is $25. Non-WFU members and students who join WFU will receive a $5 discount off their registration fee. WFU members may register for $15. All prices include lunch.

Pre-register by November 28, 2007 and receive an additional early bird discount of $5 per registration.

To register, call the WFU state office at 715-723-5561 or 800-272-5531.
