Bioenergy Summit Presents President of Environmental Defense Fund, October 23

Fred Krupp, president of the Environmental Defense Fund, will deliver the keynote presentation at the Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative’s Bioenergy Summit. Krupp’s talk, which is free and open to the public, will cover current energy policy, as well as innovative ways to encourage companies to adopt environmentally- conscious businesses practices.

Wisconsin Bioenergy Summit — Oct. 23-24

Don’t forget to set aside October 23-24 for the Bioenergy Summit sponsored by the Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative. This event is free and open to the public. It is taking place on the UW-Madison campus and will focus on Wisconsin’s leadership in the developing bioeconomy. Keynote speaker for the event will be Fred Krupp, president of the Environmental Defense Fund. The agenda also features university experts from many disciplines, as well as state policymakers and innovators from Wisconsin’s private sector.

The summit begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 23rd and ends at noon on Friday, Oct. 24. Information on location and other details will be available soon. Please help spread the word by downloading and distributing a flyer on the Bioenergy Summit. (more…)

Models Help Assess Biofuels’ Sustainability, Agricultural Research Service, USDA

Many agricultural products can be converted into feedstocks for alternative fuel. Now analysis from the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) suggests that they can be used this way without reducing the nation’s food supply, soil production capacity or environmental quality.

ARS scientists are collaborating with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service (ERS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, and USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service to assess the economic impact of feedstock production. At locations around the United States, ARS scientists are evaluating how individual and combined management decisions influence different farming systems. (more…)
