Don’t miss this opportunity to network with industry leaders and help lead the Midwest to a brighter future in the emerging carbon economy!

Policies to Prosper in the New Carbon Economy

Energy security, the impact of $150 a barrel oil on our economy, climate change and its impact on agriculture and future generations are among the most dominant issues of our times. Carbon is central to these issues and is the focus of this upcoming Summit. Midwest agriculture holds a wealth of opportunity in the emerging and dynamic carbon economy. Ag leaders who attend this Summit will have the prospect of identifying emerging carbon policy questions that will lay the groundwork for future policy work in this rapidly evolving carbon economy. The Summit will bring together over 200 Midwestern ag leaders to network, collaborate and learn how regional networks are shaping and will continue to shape agriculture and energy policies that impact the development of the carbon economy and our energy future.

We will demonstrate a single pass corn stover harvester and a recently-acquired field cuber to show several cost-effective ways to harvest excess biomass sources like corn wastes, switchgrass and other grasses. The event will go on rain or shine but wet weather may limit our ability to run the cuber.

We will then discuss biomass’s current and potential to provide clean renewable energy for Wisconsin. Wisconsin has enough excess biomass to displace half of its current coal and/or 40% of our gasoline consumption. (more…)
